i want to rectification on my previous comments three week ago about the documentery. In fact it call The Black Way, realise by the french journalist at Le Monde newpaper Claude Fléouter. The french version is La Memoire du peuple noir. This tv documentery of 52 minutes, has been recorded on an LP series Escargot No 398 and distributed by CBS in 1979. I dont know if a cd version exist. Do note that a book also has been written by the same author.
Absolutly magnificent Joseph Hill and his trio Culture. This is authenthic reggea. i was searching this song since many years in the earlier seventies just after looking the documentery The Blacy Wat by the french journalist Claude Fleiuter. And now it is a surprise for me to get it on You tude. After more than 35 years Joseph Hill still ten number one of root reggea artiste. Unfortunalty he die on august 2006
take a ride is original voiced by a different al campbell but not The al campbell. there was another one walking there those days at studio 1 i know because i had readied a al campell interview:D
(im srry for my poor English im from holland)
i couldn’t get it. but albert walker and telford nelson the harmony singers recorded me a bunch of specials/dubs of original material. we did a couple of sessions over the years and i got some nice tunes. in particular albert voiced me a tune on the broadway riddim that is unreal.
some people say that ” take a ride”(studio one ) is not actually al campbell are you aware of this tune ? i always thought it was al and it is one of my all time favorites.
Nice:D and did you get it?
its to bad that joseph hill is gone:( he was a good singer Culture is strikley Roots Music:D One Love
My favorite artiest is Earl cunningham And Al Campbell:D
i’ve never been to any of these studios so wtf do i know. i have seen pics of treasure isle and didn’t look like this and everyone always said the reason treasure isle sound so nice was cause it was wood. but like i said wtf do i know. of course if this is the sonia session your very correct cause she bought treasure isle from the duke. i love sonia’s productions. thanks for sharing. i’m a big culture fan. i’ll never forget sitting with joeseph on his bus , asking for dubplates.
hmm i thing you are confused with THE joe gibbs Version:D because this version is very rare version that stands on a LP who was produced by sonia porttinger and she was recording at treasure isle:D
channel one has many colors on the wall and by treasure isle you dont see it and with this session was the same session as the columbo session(album) and that one was also recorded in treasure Isle:D
